When you’re considering the cost of ownership of your new heating and air conditioning system – consider this. There’s more to it than just the initial purchase price. While that’s an important factor, it’s equally important to assess how much your system is going to cost to operate and maintain year in and year out. For example, higher efficiency systems will reduce your energy usage, which can result in lower energy bills. Higher efficiency systems also come with longer limited warranties, for added peace of mind. And, as far as maintenance is concerned, it’s important to select a system that is easy to service and care for. For example, Trane’s high efficiency, XV90 furnace not only comes equipped with self-diagnostic controls, it also has an easy-to-open furnace door so filter changing is a breeze.
The Initial Purchase Price Is Only One Consideration
Energy Usage
In the heating and air conditioning industry terms like SEER, AFUE and HSPF are used to indicate the efficiency of different types of equipment. Minimum efficiencies have been established by the Federal government, but in general, it's important to remember that the higher the efficiency rating, the greater the energy savings. When properly selected, higher efficiency matched systems offer improved comfort at reduced operating costs.
A High Efficiency System Gives You Greater Comfort.

Manufacturer’s Limited Warranties
A limited warranty is the warranty provided by the manufacturer. It’s called “limited” because it’s typically limited to a specific length of time and to specific items that it covers.
Trane heating and air conditioning products are backed by some of the best Manufacturer’s Limited Warranties in the industry. Our highest efficiency outdoor units (XL and XLi models) leave the factory with a 10-year limited warranty on all functional parts. If a Trane air handler, coil or thermostat is installed at the same time as part of a complete system, it too is covered by a 10-year limited parts warranty.
Through an agreement with Trane, our independent dealers cover labor for at least one year after installation. Our highest efficiency outdoor units are covered for two years.
What does this mean to you? If you purchased an XL or XLi outdoor unit, the internal functional parts, compressor and outdoor coil are covered by our Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty for 10 years and labor is covered by your dealer for two years. Since labor costs can be high and continue to rise, you should consider supplementing your Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty with an Optional Extended Warranty in order to cover labor for the remaining 8 years.
A heating and air conditioning system is a major purchase, so you’ll want to make sure you fully understand the Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty before you buy. Ask your dealer what the Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty covers for the model(s) you’ve selected and consider upgrading it with an Optional Extended Warranty.
